Olivia Velten-Lomelin

MS in Mechanical Engineering
Originally from San Francisco, Olivia is a Master’s student in mechanical engineering with a particular interest in ocean systems. Her focus lies in creating robotic systems for environmental applications as they pertain to the ocean. Before Stanford, she graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in mechanical engineering, being awarded the Carl G. Sontheimer Prize for creativity and innovation in design and academic excellence. During her time at MIT, she co-led a team of 18 peers to create a communications device for Scuba-divers and published a paper on coastal monitoring using an underwater zip-line robot. Furthermore, Olivia is a member of the Stanford Alpine Club, regularly volunteers at the Stanford farm, and spends much of her time trail running, drawing, and planning her next backpacking trip.
