Neuropharmacology
I am a postdoctoral scholar in the labs of Drs. Robert Malenka and Karl Deisseroth at Stanford University. I completed my graduate work at the University of California, Davis with Dr. David Olson, where I studied the effects of psychedelics in modulating plasticity at a cellular level and how that modifies circuits controlling mood, with the aim of developing better treatments for neuropsychiatric disorders. Using this knowledge, I utilized a function-oriented chemical synthesis approach to develop novel psychedelic analogs that appear safer and non-hallucinogenic, while maintaining therapeutic properties. Currently, I study both the neural correlates of a psychedelic experience, as well as the therapeutic properties that may arise from it. I aspire to lead a research group investigating the mechanism of action of psychoactive compounds and their relationship with psychiatric disorders and decision-making processes.
