Kate MacDonald
Cell biology
Dr. Kate MacDonald is a cell biologist, writer, and university lecturer. She is currently a postdoc in the Cimprich Lab at Stanford University, where she studies cell cycle errors and DNA damage. Kate earned her PhD in Medical Biophysics from the University of Toronto, where she produced the first whole-proteome atlas of DNA damage-induced structures called micronuclei. She is the author of children's science books, including both fiction (Izzy Steam) and nonfiction (Why Trust a Scientist). At Stanford University, she teaches the popular Storytelling in Science for graduate students, a course she developed in 2025.
