Coursera co-founder and insitro founder Daphne Koller explains Coursera’s early decision to collaborate with rather than compete with universities. The decision, she says, was rooted in a company principle of prioritizing learners over short-term gain. That same principle led the company to delay the launch of their paid product until a financial aid option could be offered to all learners. Koller insists that following the “north star” of your principles will lead to better outcomes for the company over the long term.
